Sacred Legend
According to the sthala purana, the Dwarapalakas (gatekeepers) of Vaikuntam were reborn as Pallava and Villava. They performed the sacred Ashwamedha Yagna at this shrine, and Lord Vishnu appeared before them as Paramapada Nathan—the Lord of Vaikunta (heavenly abode).
An exceptional feature of this temple is its three-tiered Vimanam:
- On the first tier, the Lord is seen in a seated posture.
- The middle tier houses the Lord as Ranganatha in reclining posture, flanked by Sri Devi and Bhoodevi.
- On the top tier, the Lord stands in a standing posture.
This tri-form manifestation beautifully represents the Lord’s cosmic presence in various divine forms.
Azhwar Mangalaasaasanam
- Tirumangai Azhwar: Pasuram numbers 1128–1137 (Naalaayira Divya Prabandham)
Tirumangai Azhwar’s hymns praise the glory of Vaikunta Nathan, celebrating the divine sanctity of this sacred kshetram.
