Tiruvallikkeni, located in the city of Chennai, is one of the most revered Divya Desams, famously known for its unique depiction of Lord Krishna as Parthasarathy – the charioteer of Arjuna. This temple holds immense spiritual significance and is a bustling hub of Vaishnavite worship.

The temple tank is adorned with alli flowers, which gave the name Allikkeni to the sacred tank and subsequently the place itself. This shrine is distinct in that it houses the images of Lord Krishna’s entire family in the main sanctum, including Rukmini, Balarama, Satyaki, Anirudha, and Pradyumna.
Sacred Legend
According to the sthala purana, Tiruvengadamudayan promised the king Sumathirajan that He would give darshan as Parthasarathy. The idol was installed by the sage Atreya Maharshi. The Utsava murthi of Parthasarathy is said to bear scars from the arrows of Bhishma during the Mahabharata war, reflecting the Lord’s role as Arjuna’s charioteer.
