Sacred Legends and Significance
Devaprayag is held in reverence as one of the holiest sites in the northern pilgrimage circuit. The Lord here is Neelamegha Perumal, enshrined in what is also called the Raghunathji Temple, and He is believed to be identical with Lord Vishnu in His manifestations at Mathura, Dwaraka, Ayodhya, Salagramam, and even Sri Vaikuntam — making this a site of unparalleled sanctity.
According to tradition, Brahma and King Dasaratha are said to have worshipped at this very spot. The temple, as per legends and historical references, was established by Adi Shankaracharya, thereby highlighting its spiritual and philosophical significance.
Adding to its uniqueness, this kshetram houses additional shrines for Hanuman, Badrinarayana, Kaala Bhairava, and Lord Shiva, showcasing the unity and harmony of Hindu worship traditions.
