Sacred Legends
According to the sacred lore, Lord Ranganathar, on His divine journey from Srirangam to Srivilliputtur, stayed at Tiruthangal, giving the place its name and spiritual prominence.
Another legend speaks of a divine dispute among Sri Devi, Bhoo Devi, and Nila Devi over who was supreme. In this conflict, Sri Devi left Vaikuntha and settled at Tiruthangal as Arunakamala Mahadevi. Her deep meditation attracted the other consorts, Bhoo Devi and Neela Devi, who joined Her here. This makes Tiruthangal a special place of unity among the divine goddesses.
