History of Jatayu Earth Centre
Jatayu Earth Centre, also known as Jatayu Nature Park, is one of Kerala’s most iconic tourist destinations. Located at Chadayamangalam in Kollam district, this monumental attraction was inaugurated in 2018 and has quickly become a global wonder. The centrepiece is the world’s largest bird sculpture, depicting Jatayu from the epic Ramayana, sprawled majestically across 65 acres.
The park was envisioned by filmmaker and sculptor Rajiv Anchal, who wanted to blend mythology, art, adventure, and eco-tourism in a single destination. It not only showcases Kerala’s cultural heritage but also promotes sustainable tourism.
Myth Behind Jatayu
According to the Ramayana, when Ravana abducted Goddess Sita, the mythical bird Jatayu tried to rescue her. A fierce battle ensued in the skies, and Jatayu fought bravely before being struck down by Ravana. Legend says that Jatayu fell on this very hilltop at Chadayamangalam, where the sculpture now stands as a tribute to his sacrifice and devotion.

Jatayu Earth Centre is located in Chadayamangalam, Kollam district, about 50 km from Trivandrum and easily accessible by road. It is a perfect day trip from Trivandrum and is often included in Kerala tour packages.
