Kerala Arts & Crafts Village (KACV), Kovalam – A Charming Craft Haven in Kerala
History & Origins
Spanning 8.5 acres in Vellar near Kovalam, the Kerala Arts & Crafts Village was developed to celebrate and preserve the rich craft traditions of Kerala. Designed and implemented by the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS) for the Kerala Tourism Department, the village has become a vibrant hub promoting cultural art forms and sustainable craftsmanship.
Crafts & Experiences
KACV is home to over 100 skilled artisans working in individual studios, offering visitors a firsthand glimpse into traditional crafts. You can explore handloom styles like Chendamangalam, Balaramapuram, and Kuthampully, browse an array of wooden crafts, and shop unique art pieces in the curated emporium.
Cultural & Event Hub
More than just a crafts showcase, KACV hosts art exhibitions, literary festivals, design workshops, music shows, and food and flea markets—enriching the cultural fabric of the region. Additionally, in 2021, it was honored as the Best Craft Village globally by the World Crafts Council.

Nestled in the scenic village of Vellar near Kovalam, KACV is just about 12 km from Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station and roughly 13 km from the International Airport, making it easily reachable for tourists.

According to visitor feedback, the village is typically open daily (except Mondays), with hours around 10:00 AM – 7:00 or 8:00 PM depending on the day of the week.
