Located in Vishnu Kanchi, within the temple town of Kanchipuram, Tiru Velukkai is one of the revered 108 Divya Desams praised in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham. This temple is a divine abode of Lord Narasimha, worshipped here as Azhagiyasingar or Mukunda Nayakar, radiating both ferocity and compassion.

Sacred Legends
As per Sthala Purana, after Lord Narasimha destroyed Hiranyakashipu, He resided at Hastigiri (Attigiri) in Kanchipuram. Later, to protect this region from the threat of asuras, He manifested again as Yoga Narasimha, chose to remain here out of His divine will (Vel – desire), and thus the place came to be known as Velukkai (Vel + irukkai = place where He stayed by choice).
The sanctity of Velukkai is further enhanced by its spiritual association with the Kanaka Saras Theertham and its golden-hued Kanaka Vimanam that shines as a beacon of devotion.
