Located 12 km from Tiruvaiyaru, enroute to Kumbakonam from Thanjavur, the sacred Divya Desam of Tirukkoodaloor is also known as Aaduthurai Perumal Koil. This ancient kshetram, nestled near the Kollidam river, holds immense spiritual value and is steeped in divine legends.

Sacred Legends:
The name Tirukkoodaloor originates from the word “koodal”, meaning gathering or meeting. It is believed that the Devas along with Nandaka Muni assembled at this holy spot to worship Lord Vishnu, giving the temple its sacred name.
Another interesting chapter in the temple’s history speaks of how the original moolavar idols were washed away during a flood in the Kollidam river. It was the noble Rani Mangammal who later discovered the idols, reinstalled them, and renovated the temple. Her devotion is eternally remembered through her carvings on the mandapam pillars, alongside her ministers.
