Tirukkovilur is a revered Divya Kshetram located near Tiruvannamalai and is celebrated as one of the Panchakrishna Shetrams—the five sacred Krishna temples. The other Panchakrishna temples include Tirukkannankudi, Kapisthalam, Tiru Kannapuram, and Tiru Kannmangai.

Sacred Legends
The temple’s legend centers around Mrikandu Maharshi, who worshipped Lord Vishnu here in His Trivikrama form. Additionally, the Mudal Azhwars—Poigai Azhwar, Boothath Azhwar, and Peyazhwar—sought refuge in Mrikandu Munivar’s hermitage on a stormy night. They felt the presence of a fourth divine figure, who was Lord Vishnu with Goddess Lakshmi, and composed their first three Tiruvandadis praising Him here.

Historical Significance & Festivals
The temple was reconstructed with granite stones by Rajendra Deva Chola in the 11th century, underscoring its architectural and historical importance. The annual festival is celebrated with fervor during the Tamil month of Panguni. Additionally, the Manavala Mamuni Utsavam takes place in Aaippasi (October-November), attracting many devotees.
