- Lord Brahma and Sage Valmiki are said to have worshipped Lord Vishnu at this very site, highlighting its sanctity.
- Another famous legend tells the story of Mandooka Muni, who was deeply engrossed in underwater meditation and failed to pay respect to Sage Durvasa. As a result, he was cursed to take the form of a toad. Later, after worshipping Lord Vishnu here, he was relieved of the curse. The temple tank is thus aptly named Mandooka Pushkarini in his honor.

Spanning approximately one acre, the temple features a beautiful Rajagopuram (tower), which was constructed by the Chola kings.
