Talaichchanga Naanmadiyam – The conch-blessed Perumal

Located in the peaceful village of Talaichchangaadu, near Aakkur between Chidambaram and Mayiladuthurai, this sacred temple is known for its unique association with both Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The temple is revered for being the place where Vishnu was blessed with His divine conch (shanku)—a rare and beautiful conch is still seen adorning the Moolavar here.

Sacred Legends:
The name Talaichchanga comes from the divine incident where Lord Vishnu worshipped Lord Shiva and received a celestial conch (shanku) as a boon. This divine conch is said to be present in the form of a rare ornament on the Moolavar’s idol even today.
Another legend associated with this kshetram is that Chandran (the Moon God) performed penance and worshipped Lord Vishnu here, earning his blessings. This event gave the temple pond its name – Chandra Pushkarini.
The temple also houses a particularly graceful idol of Goddess Andal, enhancing the spiritual ambience of the shrine.
