Sacred Legends
According to the Sthala Purana, Sage Vaisampayana, while narrating the Bhagavatam to King Janamejaya, recounted Lord Krishna’s visit to Hastinapura as the Pandava Dhoota. Desiring a glimpse of the Lord’s Vishwaroopa Darshan, Janamejaya performed the Ashwamedha Yagam at Kanchi. Pleased by the devotion, Lord Krishna appeared in His cosmic form here at Tiruppaadakam.
The shrine also houses Ramanuja and Manavala Mamunigal, anchoring the temple in Srivaishnava tradition.

Tiruppaadakam, located near other Kanchipuram Divya Desams like Tiru Neeragam and Ashtabhujakaram, offers a distinct perspective of Krishna not just as the cowherd of Vrindavan, but as the wise and powerful statesman of the Mahabharata. The colossal seated image of the Lord draws awe and surrender.
