Sacred Legends
Tirupullani is known as the place where Lord Rama rested on a bed of grass (dhārba) while awaiting the Samudra Raja (king of the ocean) to part the waters for the construction of the legendary bridge to Lanka, rescuing Sita. The peaceful ambiance on the seashore is said to have provided Rama the strength for his divine mission.
Another important legend narrates that Lord Rama presented Himself under the sacred Ashwaatha tree to Pulva Maharishi, the sage who blessed the site. This gives the place its name — Pullaranya (forest of Pullar).
